UWINKINGI HEALTH CLINIC
$425,000

In April of 2010 the Uwinkingi Health Clinic opened in Southern Rwanda. The health clinic is serving a population of 23,000. It has a maternity ward, a pediatric center, and a nutritional training center with classrooms for educating mothers on nutrition and HIV/AIDS prevention. There is also a pharmacy, a HIV/AIDS testing center and a distribution center for ARV drugs used in the treatment of AIDS.

During our December visit to Rwanda we saw the clinic in operation. The clinic is powered by a generator purchased by Golf Fore Africa. It is hoped that electricity will be brought to the area of the clinic in the next three years.

Carol Lewis is a nurse who went with us on our most recent trip to Rwanda. Please read what she has to say about the Uwinkingi Health Clinic and how invaluable it’s creation will be to this community.

“Providing education about basic health needs is so important for a community that has limited resources. This new clinic will be able to reach residents who have previously had no access to basic care and basic education about their health. It was amazing to see not only the clinic itself in such a remote area, but to see the residents taking an active role in their health”.

“I was very impressed with the nutrition section of the clinic. Teaching parents about what types of foods they and their children need to eat to keep them healthy is the key to maintaining good health. By teaching these basic nutritional skills, the residents can help themselves by growing and preparing nutritional meals for their family.”
